ELPA for LANG1003 students (Summer 2020)

LANG1003 students of Summer 2020 will take a shortened version of the ELPA test consisting of the Writing and Speaking components only.

For the Writing paper arrangements, you will receive further instructions from the ELPA team around the middle of July.

 

Writing (23 July)

You will be asked to write an expository essay, about 300 words.

The test assesses your ability to:

  • develop a given topic adequately and coherently;
  • use grammar accurately and appropriately;
  • use vocabulary accurately and appropriately.
Speaking (24 July)

You will be asked to respond to a prompt on a topic of general interest, speaking for 1.5 to 2 minutes.

The test assesses your ability to:

  • develop a given topic adequately and coherently;
  • use grammar accurately and appropriately;
  • use vocabulary accurately and appropriately;
  • pronounce words clearly and accurately, and use natural speech features, such as word stress and intonation, to enhance meanings effectively.
